Should I clear moss off my roof and does moss damage tiles? +
Moss holds moisture against the tiles and breaks off to block gutters and downpipes, which can lead to overflow and damp. On ageing or porous tiles that trapped water can worsen frost damage. Moss and algae aren't usually the direct cause of a leak. But left unchecked, they hold moisture against the tile for longer after rain, and can gradually lift tiles as they grow into the gaps. A roof heavy with moss is worth cleaning before it becomes a bigger problem.

We use a soft-wash biocide treatment, not a pressure wash. High-pressure jets can strip the granules off concrete tiles and force water underneath them, doing more harm than the moss itself. The moss dies back and washes away over the following weeks, with no stress on the tiles.
