Privacy and Cookie Policy

What we collect when you ask for a roofing quote, who handles it, and which cookies this site uses.

Who we are

This site is run under the name Harts Roofing, a roofing, re-roofing and rendering business serving Northampton and Northamptonshire. Harts Roofing is the data controller for the personal data described here. We take enquiries through the website form only, so we publish no telephone number or postal address. To reach us about your data, use the contact form and say that your message is about privacy.

What we collect

When you send a quote request, we collect what you type into the form:

  • your name and email address (both asked for);
  • your phone number, postcode, the service you need and a message about the job (all optional).

In addition, the form records the address of the page you sent it from and the page you came from, plus the IP address and browser details your device sends with the request. We use these to deal with spam and to see which pages produce enquiries. We never ask for payment or bank details on this site.

Also, if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects usage information such as the pages you view, your approximate location and your browser type. See the cookies section below.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • To reply to your enquiry and arrange a survey or quote. This is taking steps at your request before any contract, and it is why you sent the form.
  • To keep the site secure and stop spam. This is our legitimate interest, and we keep it to what is needed.
  • To measure how the site is used. This relies on your consent. Analytics cookies are only set if you press Accept in the cookie banner.

However, we do not make automated decisions about you, and we do not sell your personal data.

Who handles your data

For example, your enquiry is stored in an enquiry database and sent to us by email. We use service providers to run the site and these systems: Cloudflare hosts the website, handles the form and holds the enquiry database, and an email service delivers the notification to us. Google provides analytics, but only after you accept. These providers act for us and may use your data only to provide their service. We do not pass your enquiry to anyone else.

How long we keep it

Meanwhile, we keep an enquiry for as long as we reasonably need it to deal with your request and any follow-up about that job, and then delete it or make it anonymous. We have not set a fixed number of months. Analytics data is kept by Google under the retention setting we choose in our analytics account.

Your rights

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and, where it applies, ask for a copy in a portable form. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Send your request through the contact form.

Still, if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would ask you to raise it with us first, but the choice is yours.

Cookies and similar technologies

When you first visit, a banner asks whether to allow analytics cookies. Until you press Accept, Google Analytics is set to deny all storage, so no analytics cookies are placed on your device. This site sets no advertising cookies.

  • If you press Accept: Google Analytics 4 sets its own analytics cookies, _ga and _ga_G54PERRELT, to count visits and see which pages are useful. We turn on IP anonymisation for it.
  • If you press Reject or close the banner: no analytics cookies are set. Google may still receive basic measurement signals that do not use cookies, such as the fact that a page was viewed.
  • Remembering your choice: your answer is saved in your browser's local storage under the name ml_consent_v1 so we do not ask on every page. It is not sent to us.
  • The enquiry form sets no cookies.

Besides this, you can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page, or by clearing your browser's stored data. If we ever add a cookie that needs your consent, we will ask you first.

Changes to this policy

Finally, we may update this policy if the way we handle data, or the law, changes. The version on this page is always the current one.
