EPDM rubber is our go-to for most garages and extensions — seamless, tough and long-lasting. Flat Roofing FAQs

What is the best material for a flat roof — felt, EPDM or GRP fibreglass? +
All three work well. EPDM rubber is a single seamless membrane that's very durable and quick to install; GRP fibreglass gives a hard-wearing, seamless finish that's ideal where the roof is walked on or seen; and modern torch-on felt is a reliable, budget-friendly multi-layer system. We'll recommend the right one for your roof's size, use and budget.
How long does an EPDM / rubber flat roof last? +
A properly installed EPDM rubber roof typically lasts 20–30 years or more, and many systems carry manufacturer guarantees. Because it's a single seamless sheet with very few joints, there's little to fail compared with older felt roofs.
What causes a flat roof to leak? +
Older felt roofs leak as the material ages, cracks and the seams split, and ponding water speeds up the wear. Leaks also start at poorly formed upstands, flashings and outlets. A modern EPDM or GRP system with proper falls and detailing removes most of these weak points.
Can you repair a flat roof or does it need replacing? +
If the roof is generally sound and the problem is localised — a split, a lifted seam or a failed flashing — a repair is often enough. If the covering is old, brittle or ponding badly across the whole roof, re-covering with EPDM, GRP or felt is usually the better long-term value. We'll give you an honest recommendation at survey.
